Cedars Cancer Foundation is proud to be associated with the McGill University Health Centre. The activities of Cedars are broad and all encompassing and allow the MUHC to provide outstanding cancer care. Cedars has an impact on virtually every aspect of cancer care at the MUHC. Through the activities of Cedars CanSupport to the purchase of specialized equipment, to the sponsoring of research and other educational activities the CCF is well recognized across the MUHC. The Cedars Breast Centre of the MUHC was the first truly multidisciplinary breast clinic in Quebec. Cedars sponsors regular lecture series for the lay people as well as annual visiting professors in both Medical and Surgical Oncology.

 

To the individual cancer patient at the MUHC, Cedars provides important "extras" which are not funded through the provincial Health Insurance Board that keeps the MUHC at the forefront of cancer care in Quebec. Through its Cedars CanSupport program, patients have access to information and support in managing their disease. The Cedars Wilfrid Howick Humanitarian Fund is unique in that it provides a means to ensure that disadvantaged patients can complete their treatment. In short, it would be hard to imagine the state of cancer care at the MUHC without the help of Cedars. On a personal note, my work as Chair of the former Cedars Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), and now presently the Cedars Awards and Fellowhships Committee (CAFC) and of course the Board of Directors has allowed me to meet and work with dynamic, generous and caring individuals who give selflessly of their time and expertise for the betterment of their community. "People helping People" is what Cedars means to me.
